Old Yeller by Terry d. Chacon
I’m always drawn to old tractors — their weathered forms and the stories they seem to tell through age and setting. I discovered this one on a ranch outside of Tehachapi, California, resting quietly on a hillside as if waiting to be noticed once more. I began with a plein air study on location, capturing its charm and the surrounding landscape, while also taking numerous photographs for reference. Back in the studio, I brought the scene to life on canvas, using expressive palette knife work to create rich texture and depth, highlighting the enduring character of this timeless machine.
